§ 1-3. Working of prisoners.

  • (a)

    In accordance with the provisions of Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:708, whenever a person sentenced to the parish jail shall be willing, of his own free will, to perform manual labor upon any of the public buildings, works or improvements of the parish, the prisoner shall be designated to work on such public buildings, works or improvements as in the priority designated by the parish treasurer, who for purposes of this section shall be the representative of the governing authority of the parish.

    (b)

    At all times, the prisoners shall remain under the custody and control of the sheriff of the parish.

    (c)

    Work performed by prisoners shall be done between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

    (d)

    Any prisoner who does not voluntarily, of his own free will and accord, agree to perform manual labor shall not be required or permitted to perform manual labor. Any such prisoner refusing to work shall not be permitted to do any other work until such time as he is willing to work.
